Hashmat Ullah (Paresh Rawal), a devout Muslim, who works as a mechanic is asked to repair an old V8 Ford engine. It’s not an ordinary Ford. It was the same one that carried the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi which was immersed in the Sangam.
A bomb blast in his town sees the arrest of many innocent Muslim youth. This results in hostility and two leaders – Om Puri and Pavan Malhotra – decide that the answer is to boycott work.
Hashmat needs to make a choice: to join his community and protest against the arrests or continue to work on the engine?
